Needs and Wants

Our story begins many years ago when I was in dental school.  When we/students started seeing patients in the clinics I needed (or wanted, as Ames continues to remind me) one device that would allow me to listen to music, watch movies, make phone calls, text, and see my schedule.  Naturally, I needed...sorry Ames, wanted, a smart phone.  Finally, after years and years of debating I finally was going to get a smart phone for Father's Day.  I've been looking at all the different options, and I boiled it down to two phones: the Droid Incredible 2 or the iPhone 4.  From everything I was reading it really didn't matter, they were both great phones, and I finally decided to go with the Droid phone because it was a first generation iPhone with Verizon.  I wanted them to work out all their little bugs first.

So, fast forward a couple of months now.  I’m still figuring out the phone, and having fun trying to use the phone to its maximum potential but I know I’m far from that.  I’ve been using it for its navigation (GPS), looking up pharmacology questions, using it for ebooks (which is awesome), texting, calendar, phone calls, games,  random internet questions, etc...Now if you ask Ames, its function is for Bubble Blast (it’s a game).  However, if you ask Zac what’s the true function of the phone, it’s for Baby Einstein on You Tube.  If he sees my phone he goes crazy, and starts grabbing at the phone crying.  It’s hilarious when he actually gets to watch one of the You Tube clips.  We finally got it on film.  What's sad is that I thought I was going to be using this phone for all these cool things, but no, I'm using it to watch Baby Einstein...welcome to fatherhood, right?!  Daddy's toys aren't for daddy :)  Now, after some of you watch the short little video clip of Zac watching Baby Einstein, you may have noticed him screaming a couple of times.  Actually, he is "mooing".  He is copying the flying pink cow in the video.  It makes us laugh every time.

Some of the funny things our little man is doing now is talking.  Man, that kid wont stop talking.  However, you can't understand a word/noise he is making.  One word we know he is saying is ball.  He will point to a ball and say, "Ba".  The other funny is the kid won't walk anymore, he is running from one thing to the next.  I think I have finally figured him out.  He has his mother's personality and my energy.  I'm going to blame those traits on the "Mother's Curse". "The Mother's Curse" (for those who don't know what I'm talking about) is when you were little and your mom or dad said, "I hope you have a kid just like you..."  And then we had Zac!
I had to put this picture in, it's one of my favorites
I thought I better add this in at the end, it was Ames' birthday a little while ago and I better at least post a picture of her.  We love you!
Happy Birthday!

One Year

My little man is 1!  Where did the time go?!?!  Seriously...I just had him.

Here is my little 1 year old!

What's up with Zac:
  1. Excellent walker.  He started up at 10.5 months and just got better.  He can stand up on his own from a sitting position and hasn't crawled since.  Now he is trying to run.  Still not very good at this yet, he inevitably falls.
  2. Hates...no...loathes baby food.  Will not eat it.  He knows the containers it comes in and won't even try it if he sees the container. But also doesn't really like anything that we eat.  What will he eat?  most days he will eat crackers, yogurt, cookies, and broccoli cheddar soup.  That is about it.  He will sometimes eat what we are eating, but most of the time spits it out.  Soooo frustrating.  I would take him off of formula but he needs it for the nutrients Ritz crackers and Goldfish simply cannot provide.
  3. Loves his daddy.  He is such a daddy's boy it is ridiculous.  Of course sometimes you just need your mommy, but he will go to Jer before me most times.  In fact, one morning he woke up particularly early, we were not ready to get up so we fed him a bottle in our bed and then I tried to cuddle him back to sleep, after a few minutes of trying to get comfy, he crawled over to Jer snuggled up and went to sleep.
  4. Still loves walks and baths.
  5. Tries desperately to kiss Ozzy...walks at him with his mouth open and ready to smooch
  6. Likes his schedule.  Up at 7, nap at 9/10 ish, nap at 2/3 ish, bed by 8.  You mess with this schedule, get ready for a grump.  And grump does not even start to describe this kid when he is tired...he gets mad!  (my kid *sheepish grin*)
  7. He is starting to get into everything.  When I am getting ready for the day, he rummages through the bathroom.  By the time I am done it looks like a hurricane came through.  We have baby proofed a few of the kitchen cabinets and are hoping we don't need to do them all.  So far, the few we got have slowed him down.
  8. He has 6 teeth...2 on the bottom, 4 on the top.  The 2 central top teeth are in but are taking a very long time to fully grow in so he has a weird vampire-esque smile.
  9. He doesn't like to hold still for very long and spends most of the day walking around the house mumbling.
  10. Words so far: Mamama and babababa...if you consider those words.
  11. When he is tired, he will let you know.  He comes up to you and whines a little and puts his head down on you.  When he gives you this cue, all you need to do is lay him down in his crib....it is really that easy (love it!)
  12. He is just plain fun to have around.  He is always making us laugh.  He has sooo many expressions and is so active.  There is rarely a dull moment.
